Why am I so passionate about preschool?
I've always wanted to teach!
Hi! I'm Ms. Stephanie, and for as long as I can remember I've always wanted to be a teacher. I even got a bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education so I can teach elementary school students. I also received a Master's in TESOL so, I could help English language learners. I've had the joy of teaching grades K-3 in a New York City Public School for over 12 years. I am currently tutoring online with students of various ages. I have loved teaching my former students and have enjoyed helping them achieve their fullest potential. As a mother and educator, I believe our children should get the best education possible. This is why I decided to start a preschool. I've started this online preschool to help students get the foundation necessary to be successful in their academic education. My preschool will not only prepare your child for kindergarten, but he or she can also have the chance to learn Spanish from me! I am really looking forward to teaching YOUR child online and help them with the tools they need to succeed! I can't wait!!!

Your child will  be learning English and Spanish. Each class is 45 minutes in length.

TEACHING TIME

What do we do during Teaching Time?
Your child will participate in a fun and engaging thematic based curriculum experience in English and Spanish. Themes will be consistent between both languages. This will help facilitate transfer concepts learned from one language to another. This will also make it easier for your child to retain, and reinforce concepts learned while learning a new language.  In 45 minutes your child will be interacting with me and their preschool amigos in a "live" online classroom.

  • Do parents have to be present?
    No. You do, however, need to log your child into the online classroom at the start of each class, but then you can either stay or do other things you need to do.
  • ​Do parents have to print things off or help outside of preschool class?
    No. Our curriculum is designed to be hands-on (no worksheets) and self-contained within our 45 minute preschool class each day so you don't have to supplement additional curriculum during the day. However, I will provide printables in case you would want to practice concepts learned. 
  • ​Do parents have to buy art materials?
    No. There are no supplies required. Any materials needed will be provided by Our Amigos Learning Virtually for free. 
  • ​Are there other costs besides my monthly tuition?
    No. There are no other costs required to participate.
  • ​How does the dual language program work?                                                                                                  Classes will alternate between English and Spanish on a weekly basis. Themes and concepts will be as consistent as possible to facilitate transfer of concepts learned from one language to the next. Your child will learn preschool concepts in their home language while learning another language simultaneously.
  • ​What are the benefits of learning two languages at an early age?                                                                       When your child has learns another language this helps develop the ability to think flexibly, demonstrate self-control, focus attention, and tune out distractions (Bialystok & Martin, 2004; Zelazo, Carlson, & Kesek, 2008). Children that learn multiple languages can have better working memory than children who speak only one language. Working memory holds, processes, and updates information over short periods of time and is very important for problem solving and executive function (Morales, Calvo, & Bialystok, 2013).  
  • ​Is this an online "learning" video game or worksheet website?
                    No. There is NO video game or worksheet component to our online preschool program... just real, social interaction between an amazing preschool teacher (that's ME!) and a small class of amazing preschool friends.
  • ​What's the difference between your online preschool and Hooked on Phonics or ABC Mouse?
    The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that preschoolers have no more than 1 hour of screen time. Would you prefer your child used that hour on high-intensity video games or on face-to-face social interactions to prepare your child in EVERY WAY to develop socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and linguistically? I believe preschool is a hands-on experience, and playing video games to "learn" isn't how we do things at online preschool. 
  • ​What if my child is shy, active, loud, silly, etc.?
    After over 15 years of teaching kids of all ages, I think I've seen just about every type of child there is. I'm excited to teach your child and help him or her have a wonderful experience! 
  • ​What requirements do I need to participate?
    You'll need internet and a laptop or desktop computer. You can use an iPad or a phone but we don't recommend it because it's too hard to see everyone's faces and actually socialize with them. 
  • ​ I'm not technical. Will you show me how to login?
         Yes. We've put together amazing video trainings that will walk you through how to login. It's easy!
  • ​What platform is this using?
    We use Zoom, a free platform. The links we use to join our online classroom are exclusive to our preschool families so no one else can access the online classroom. Plus, our online classroom is monitored by a teacher (that's ME!) at all times when in use.
  • ​I miss the friends I had with my child's local preschool. Can I connect with preschool parents in my child's preschool class?
    Absolutely! After signing up, you'll join our private Facebook group of amazing preschool families. We're super supportive and excited to have you join us!
If you miss a class, we have you covered!
WE RECORD EVERY CLASS!
If your child isn't able to make it to class one day, that's okay! We'll upload the class recordings and give you the link so your child can watch them!
